See some of the world’s most exciting modern and contemporary art at Tate Modern. Enjoy innovative works that have shaped art as we know it. Our gallery is free to visit. On display are paintings, sculptures and large-scale installations from artists around the world including Pablo Picasso, Yayoi Kusama and Henri Matisse. Explore the iconic Turbine Hall alongside our underground Tanks, a striking space dedicated to live performances and video.

Members enjoy unlimited free entry to exhibitions with no need to book. Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirror Rooms still requires a free Members ticket, given the show’s special and intimate scale.

Walk Cycle Ride Drive

Cycle hire docking stations are located at New Globe Walk (320 metres), Sumner Street (320 metres) Southwark Street (480 metres). Find availability on Transport For London.

Travel direct between Tate Britain at Millbank Pier and Tate Modern at Bankside Pier with the Tate to Tate – RB2 service.

The RB2 service runs every 30 minutes. Check Thames Clipper for the latest timetable.

A drop off / pick up point is situated on Holland Street, just outside the main entrance.

There are no parking facilities at Tate Modern or in the surrounding streets. Public transport is the easiest way of getting to the gallery.

Entry details

Entry to the collection is free for everyone. Booking is recommended for exhibitions.

Exhibition entry

  • Members and Supporters enjoy free exhibition entry – no need to book, just turn up with your card. Yayoi Kusama:Infinity Mirror Rooms still requires a free Member ticket given the show’s special and intimate scale
  • Visitors with a disability pay a concessionary rate, and entrance for companions is free
  • Visitors aged 16–25 can join Tate Collective to access £5 exhibition tickets
  • Up to four children aged 11 and under go free per parent or guardian
  • £5 family child tickets are available for children aged 12–18 years

Entrance

Entry is via the Turbine Hall ramp or via the Blavatnik Building.

Bag size policy

Bags and items larger than cabin bag size (55cm x 40cm x 20cm) are not permitted in the building. Potentially dangerous objects are also not permitted.

Skateboards, scooters, and folding bike policy

Electric skateboards, scooters and folding bikes are not permitted in the building. Non-electric skateboards, scooters and folding bikes are permitted but must be stored in the cloakroom. Cloakroom capacity is limited, so we regret that at busy times we may not be able to accept these items.

We take security very seriously and work closely with Police Project Servator teams. You can read more about our approach to safety and rules for the gallery.

Accessible car parking

There are twelve parking spaces for disabled visitors, accessed via Park Street. Please book these spaces at least 24 hours in advance.

Your name, contact details, vehicle registration number, date and time of visit are required to make the booking for an accessible parking space

Once you have parked, enter via the South Entrance of the Blavatnik Building across the level terrace, approximately 30 – 60 metres from the parking spaces.

Two RADAR Key operated lifts link the South Entrance on Level 1 and the Ticket desks in the Turbine Hall. RADAR keys are available from staff at the South Entrance on Level 1 and ticket desks on Level 0.

If you have booked a mobility scooter or wheelchair, these can also be collected from the South Entrance.

Wheelchair and mobility scooter provision

To borrow a wheelchair or walker you can either book in advance or ask a member of staff on arrival (subject to availability). Reservation is free.

To borrow a mobility scooter please book at least 24 hours in advance of visiting. Reservation is free but you must have driven a mobility scooter before.

Facilities at Tate Modern

Toilets

Fully accessible toilets are located on every floor on the concourses.

A Changing Places toilet is available on Level 0 of the Natalie Bell Building. You can access the toilet using a RADAR key. RADAR keys are available from the tickets desk on Level 0 and from staff at the South entrance on Level 1.

It offers:

  • Plenty of room for carers
  • Full room coverage electric hoist equipment
  • Height adjustable changing bench
  • Paper roll
  • Height adjustable wash hand basin
  • Non-slip floor
  • Privacy screen
  • Seating

Baby changing facilities

  • The Baby Care Room is located on Level 0 Natalie Bell Building.
  • Additional nappy-changing facilities are available in toilets on levels 0 to 5.

Lifts

  • There are four lifts in the Natalie Bell Building, by the main stairs on each floor. You can reach the lifts from the Turbine Hall. These lifts are being prioritised for people who are not able to use the stairs or escalators
  • There are eight lifts in the Blavatnik Building, situated by the main stairs on each floor
  • Two RADAR Key operated lifts link the South Entrance on Level 1 and the Ticket desks in the Turbine Hall on Level 0. RADAR keys are available from staff at the South Entrance on Level 1, and from the cloakroom and ticket desks on Level 0

Seating

  • There are seats and benches throughout the gallery.
  • Folding seats are available – just ask a member of staff or pick up a stool from the racks located on the concourses on levels 2, 3 and 4.

Water fountains

Water Fountains are located next to the toilets in the Natalie Bell building on Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

There is also a water dispenser in the Espresso Bar in the Natalie Bell building on Level 3.

Member Facilities

The Members Bar is located on Level 5 Natalie Bell Building, accessible by lift from Level 4.

Multi-Faith and Contemplation Room

A multi-faith and contemplation room is available in the Natalie Bell Building on Level 4, off room 2 of the Materials and Objects display. This is a designated space for worship and prayer, as well as quiet and reflection. All are welcome to use this room.

Quiet Room

We have two quiet rooms available:

  • A quiet room on Level 4 of the Natalie Bell Building can be accessed from Room 7 of Materials and Objects
  • A quiet room on Level 2 of the Natalie Bell Building can be accessed from Room 4 of Artist and Society

These rooms are for neurodiverse people, families or anyone who would like to spend some quiet time away from the gallery environment.

Autism

When you get to the gallery, ear defenders can be borrowed from the Ticket desks.

A quiet room is available to use in the Natalie Bell Building on Level 4, off room 7 of the Materials and Objects display. This room is for neurodiverse people, families or anyone who would like to spend some quiet time away from the gallery environment.

Large print guides

Large print guides are available for all exhibitions.

You can access printed versions in the gallery:

  • Ask a member of staff the exhibition entrance.

You can access PDF versions on our website:

  • Visit the relevant exhibition page and click on the blue box 'Read the exhibition guide'; click on the 'Download large print guide' button near the top of the page to read the guide or to save a copy to your device.

Large print captions are currently not available for the permanent collection.

Communication cards

Communication cards provide a means of visual, or nonverbal, communication.

You can use our communication cards to ask for directions to facilities in the gallery. These include toilet, café, seating, shop, quiet room, and exit. Show one of the cards to a member of Tate staff if you need to be shown to one of these places.

You can download these cards and print at home or save as a PDF on your portable device. There are two colour versions, with white or yellow background. Use whichever version you find easiest to read.

Tate is grateful to Anna Farley who initiated and championed the development of these communication cards. Anna is an autistic artist who makes work exploring her autism, UK disability culture and inclusion.
