Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School is a specialist centre for learners with ASC and more complex needs, providing wraparound care and educational support to ensure pupils and students achieve their full potential.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder, which affects the way a person communicates with and relates to other people and the world around them. The way in which people are affected varies from one individual to another and by age and intellectual functioning. (ASD Wales 2010)

Nearly all pupils in the LRC access the National Curriculum via mainstream lessons and access interventions within the LRC. Pupils with ASD require highly individualised planning to meet their learning needs.

The Purpose of the LRC

  • To provide pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum that is highly differentiated in order to support them in achieving their full potential.

  • A classroom based provision within a mainstream school providing education for pupils with complex learning needs.

  • All pupils have the opportunity to be part of mainstream school lessons and to socialise with their peers whilst their individual needs are supported and met.

‘….the greatest cognitive and academic progress has been achieved by teachers who show empathetic understanding and are flexible in their teaching strategies, assessments and expectations.’ (Attwood, 2007)
