Official Opening

On Thursday 8th November 2018, Cabinet Secretary Kirsty Williams visited our school and attended a ceremony to officially open our school. This was a ceremony for the pupils and for organisations who had played a part in the development and construction of the new school building.

Official Opening 005

450 of our pupils and students were selected to attend. The top 50 pupils in each year group who had the highest number of house points were invited to form the audience. The Show Choir and ensemble gave an outstanding performance of Karl Jenkins' Adiemus which brought many a tear to many of the guests' eyes!

The Minister said: “I am absolutely delighted to open Ysgol Harri Tudur today – a £38.3 million project, jointly funded by Pembrokeshire County Council and Welsh Government through our 21st Century Schools Programme.

“This is the most ambitious school building programme since the 1960s and will see an overall investment of £1.4billion. Our pupils deserve to have the best learning environment for their development and Ysgol Harri Tudur certainly delivers this.

“I would like to thank everyone involved, and wish the teaching staff and pupils the very best of luck for their future in this exciting new school.”

Mrs Williams then invited a Year 10 pupil to help her unveil the plaque to commemorate the opening.

Ysgol Harri Tudur / Henry Tudor School was delighted to welcome the chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Aden Brinn, also the Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire County Council, Mr Ian Westley, the Cabinet member for Education, Councillor David Lloyd, and Councillor Bob Kilminster, the Cabinet Member for Finance and member with responsibility for the 21st Century schools programme. Our School Governors and guests and friends of the school were in attendance. It was an absolutely beautiful celebration and opening ceremony.

The Minister then went on a short tour of the school whilst the invited pupils and students enjoyed a celebratory treat in the Refectory.

The Friends of Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School have been selected by Co-op as a recipient of their charitable Local Community Fund initiative. This is similar to that run by Tesco with their community fund, where we received £1500 to assist with the breakfast club. The Co-op fund works slightly differently; you need to be a Co-op member (£1) and download their app; if you then select the Community tab you can see the causes - select The Friends of the School. Monies raised will help continue the breakfast club into 2025. The notification message from Co-op is repeated below. Congratulations! The Friends of Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School has been chosen to be part of the next round of the Co-op Local Community Fund (Cause ID: 87323) The funding round will start on Sunday 20 October 2024 and will run for 12 months until 19 October 2025.
